Practicing Edges

This painting is basically a study in edges. I'm fascinated by what great painters (like Richard Schmid) can do with them. One type of edge that I've just recently learned the strengths of is the lost edge. I tried to use lost edges in areas of this painting that I never would have before (like the eye). I definitely learned a thing or two from painting this.

Cool piece. Did you do any under paintings for this? It subtly hints a bit at Sargent's style :)

Thanks guys,
Shou - I didn't do an underpainting, but I did build it slowly from the blank canvas, which is a method I prefer. And Sargent is my favourite painter, so I'm glad there is some resemblance. I was actually thinking Sargent a lot while painting this (especially the hands).

Cool model. I a like the colors in the neck and hair. Yeah broken edges are tough. Good stuff.

Hi Marco,
Your work is really fantastic!
I liked your portraits and caricaures. Sometimes I paint pictures, especially landscapes. I see that you have explored this field, too. I will passing.
Thanks for to visit my blog.
